Dinah Laurel Lance comes to his gym as the acting DA investigating a robbery involving one of his gym's members. Ted goes to the member's aid and initially gets on Laurel's bad side, but she later returns to take him up on his offer to train her, as she wants to be like her sister Sara "The Canary" after her murder and she herself had bad luck confronting an abusive boyfriend of a girl from her AA meetings. She continues to train with Ted and they eventually become friends, with Laurel confides him about Sara. Oliver Queen "The Arrow" and his team (Roy Harper "Arsenal", John Diggle, Felicity Smoake) encounter a series of murders where the victim are Cartel members and the latest one is found by the Arrow in Ted's gym. Laurel comes to Ted's aid as he was with her during the murder; however, Oliver is unhappy of the fact that Laurel's training to emulate Sara and is still unsure of Ted's innocence. Team Arrow eventually finds another murder from years back, before Oliver returned from the island, and determine that the killer was left handed with brass knuckles, Ted being left handed. Oliver eventually finds Ted with another body, a magician, in Ted's storage locker after Felicity tracks his phone. After a brief fight, Ted explains that he was once a vigilante that handled street, gang crime in the Glades. When Oliver brings up the murder from years ago, Ted admits to it but says it was an accident and it caused him to stop being a vigilante and claims the new murders were caused by someone setting him up. Laurel later briefs both Ted and the Arrow on the identity of the magician and directs them to his place of business, where the murder from years ago took place. The Arrow and Ted head there and get put into a corner by the murder's gunfire. Ted is later arrested by SCPD for the murders and Oliver later tells Laurel that he now believes that Ted is innocent but knows who is guilty. Laurel later talks to Ted in an interrogation room and Ted reveals that the real killer is his old partner Isaac who killed the man from years ago. The man killed was a Cartel member and because of the murder Ted told his partner to leave, abandoning him, and Isaac was later abducted by the Cartel and tortured for months before escaping. He later shows up after Ted is released and takes Ted and Laurel hostage. Laurel butt dials Team Arrow and they show up to save them. The Arrow and Diggle save Laurel and Ted from a car wreck and Arsenal took down Isaac, who is later arrested. The Arrow later confronts Ted again in his gym and the two bury the hatchet and the Arrow tells him that he doesn't want him to train her because he's concerned for her safety. Ted says if she stops coming it's fine, but if she does it's her life and she should make her own choice. Learning Ted's vigilante past, Laurel shows up for her training and details to Ted her intentions on avenging Sara's death and wants to be her sister's successor. He later show's up when Laurel ask him to help her, Arsenal, Sin and Diggle against Danny Brickwell and his men, wearing a simple costume of a leather jacket and balaclava - although he still introduces himself as "Wildcat" - but is badly injured after Brickwell beats him up during the subsequent fight.
