ABILITIES:
Archery - Thanks to training from Yao Fei and his daughter Shadoo, Oliver is a master level archer. He's known to be able to shoot 6 bouncing tennis balls before they come to rest, shoot items off a person without harming them, and showcased deadly accuracy even while moving.
Honed Senses - He's repeatedly demonstrated the ability to sense danger before anyone around him. This keen level of perception is likely developed form all his training. Its helped Oliver even be able to anticipate an opponent's attacks, once anticipating The Flash's attack patterns well enough to catch an attempted punch and then hit the Flash with a punch of his own.
Peak Human Conditioning - Oliver is shown to be in top level of human conditioning thanks to his training in martials arts with mentors, regular practice of said arts, exercise, and his vigilante adventuring. He could very easily best most Olympic level athletes in sporting events. Oliver's superior condition has also made him resistant to posions, though of course not immune to them. Also his peak conditioning has contributed to Oliver having an extremely high tolerance for pain.
Indomitable Will - Once his mind is set to something, Oliver is almost impossible to deter from accomplishing the goal. He's fearless even when facing seemingly insurmountable odds. The strength of his will makes Oliver able to resist extreme levels of torture. It also greatly contributes to Oliver's pain tolerance.
Martial Arts/Hand to hand combat - Oliver has had extensive training in various martial arts styles, as well as other hand to hand combat techniques. On the island of Lian Yu he was trained first by Yao Fei, and then eventually Yao's daughter Shado and SAS mercenary Slade Wilson in martial arts and hand to hand combats respectively. When he came home from the island, Oliver continued to train and practice, often sparring with other members of Team Arrow. He would eventually undergo League of Assassin training when being groomed to replace Ra's Al Ghul.
Skilled Metalsmith - Oliver is very skilled in the art of forging and crafting his own arrows. These arrows are shown to be very sturdy and sharp, able to pierce the extra-durable skin of a mirakuru-enhanced man. Its also feasible that Oliver could use his ability as a metalsmith to make gifts for his friends or family
Skilled Engineer - Oliver had an aptitude for mechanics since a young age, learning much about it from his father Robert in repairing and constructing equipment. As the Hood/Arrow, Oliver developed a variety of devices attached to and designed to work in unison with his arrows once launched.
Stealth/Free-Running/Acrobatic skills - Oliver has shown himself capable of scaling buildings and running from rooftop to rooftop easily. On one occasion he scaled a building using the window ledges of the building to retrieve a bullet. On another occasion, he leaped over a rooftop to land on a lower one. He is very maneuverable and graceful, able to chase and outrun enemies through various terrains with no wasted effort or time. A very tactical person, Oliver, is able to sneak in and out of almost any unguarded building without being detected. Oliver is able to disappear in a second's notice, even in broad daylight. For long periods of time, he is able to follow his target(s) without being noticed.
High level intellect/Detective/Tactician/Businessman/Leader - Oliver has been shown to have great detective skills when searching for information about the people on his list. He is very sharp to his surroundings, able to determine much of the events that transpired and from it able to track down his target. He is shown himself a quick-learner in having gained great knowledge, if not skill in various fields from his five years away from home, able to use them all effectively to aid in his investigation while maintaining discretion. He is shown to be a highly skilled tactician and is able to create plans which allows him to take on large numbers of heavily armed men, highly skilled martial artists and even beat Mirakuru-enhanced soldiers and the Flash. He is a great businessman as he was able to run the nightclub Verdant. Oliver is also a capable leader, he was able to form a vigilante team known as Team Arrow, and has led it with success since he founded it.
Master Survivalist - Oliver has great survival skills, as he was taught by Yao Fei how to survive in the wild. He was able to live on the island and provide for himself. His skills and willpower allowed him to survive near-death experiences, like in his battles against Malcolm Merlyn, Slade Wilson and Ra's al Ghul.
STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES:
Strengths -
1) An indomitable will - The strength of Oliver's will is pretty much second to none. You have to be an intense person to meet his level of will.
2) Immense training in his skills - Ollie isn't just some amateur going out and playing at being a vigilante/hero. He has been taught and instructed in the skills he's acquired by masters of those arts. So some low-level street punk isn't going to take him down.
3) Desire to help people - When floating in a life raft with his father, Ollie was asked by Robert Queen to right his wrongs. He asked his son to save their city. Oliver has literally since then lived for saving Starling City, to honor his father's dying wish. So he will do anything to protect and help the innocent people of not just Starling, but the world.
Weaknesses -
1) Takes on too much - Oliver has a tendency to put too much on himself. He tries to face odds no one man can alone so as not to put those he loves in danger.
2) Mortality - For all the skills and training Oliver possesses, at the end of the day he is mortal. All the things that can kill a normal man are capable of killing Oliver
3) Guilt - Oliver feels guilt tremendously when someone is hurt, or worse, because of him and his actions. I.E. his best friend Tommy Merlyn, Shado, former lover Sara Lance, his father Robert, and his mother Moria.
BACKGROUND:
Oliver Jonas Queen was born to Robert and Moira Queen on May 16th, 1985. He grew up in the lap of luxury as his parents were the billionaire owners of Queen Consolidated, a multi-facetted company. During his childhood Oliver met and became best friends with Tommy Merlyn who was the son of Robert an Moira's friend Malcolm. They eventually met the sisters Dinah Laural and Sara Lance, all four becoming good friends. By the time they were young adults Oliver and Tommy personified the typical "billionaire playboy" sterotype perfectly. And it was no act like Bruce Wayne's was. These two were pretty much out of control together. Oliver was in a relationship with Laural to the point they were considering getting a place of their own. However he was prone to cheating and had even gotten a woman pregnant. His mother paid the woman to tell him she had a miscarriage and move away to Central City to raise her child(a son). He further was destroying things with Laural by engaging in a relationship with Sara behind her back as Sara had always had a crush on Oliver.
In 2007, when Oliver was 22, he embarked on a voyage with his father on their family yacht The Queen's Gambit. He snuck Sara on board with him to enjoy some high seas romance. Ultimately this would be the last time anyone ever saw Robert Queen alive, and the last for 5 years anyone ever saw Oliver and Sara alive. Unknown to the Queens, Malcolm Merlyn had a bomb planted on the ship. It turned out that Oliver's parents, along with Malcolm, were part of a group of wealthy men and women who wanted to clean up an area of Starling City known as "The Glades". Eventually though Robert and others felt guilty about the plannd "Undertaking" to cleanse The Glades. Malcolm wouldn't let Robert stop the plan so he had the bom planted on the yacht and once far enough out to sea it exploded.
Robert and Oliver survived the shipwreck with another crewmember, Sara Lance thought to have been lost to the sea as well. Realizing that there weren't enough provisions to keep all three alive, Robert killed the other crew member and confessed his sins to his son. He told his son to survive and then took his own life. Days later Oliver washed up on an island he'd later find out was called Lian Yu. On this island he met a Chinese man known as Yao Fei. He started to train Oliver in survival before they ran afoul of a man named Edward Fyers who was intending to use a missile launcher to bring down a Ferris Air plane and wreck China's economy.
Oliver would have several run-ins with Fyers and his men, being tortured by Billy Wintergreen and apparently betrayed by Yao Fei. However as Fei appeared to kill Oliver he actually sent him to meet with a friend of Yao's: Slade Wilson. The mercernary was leery of Oliver at first and planned to kill the young man after easily defeating him in a sword fight. But then Oliver broke his own hand to escape his binds and attacked Slade. Wilson was impressed and believed there was fight in the boy. He trained him as best he could and together they made several raids on Fyers' camp in order to stop his plans. At one point even stealing an important chip for Fyers launcher. During a double-cross exchange for the chip and Yao Fei plus passage off the island, Shado(Fei's daughter) was rescued.
Shado trained Oliver in archery as her father had started before. Just as he became skilled enough to make another raid, Fyers captured the trio thanks to Yao Fei who was still trying to save his daughter. Unfortunately Fei was killed by Fyers after filming a video claiming responsibility for the planned destruction of the plane. All hell broke loose as Oliver, Shado, and Slade escaped and fought with Fyers and his men. The plane was saved as Oliver redirected the missile to hit the camp. Fyers though survived and once again took Shado hostage. This time though Oliver took up Yao Fei's bow and arrow, killing Fyers.
Months later Oliver had continued training and was getting better and better. Another group of men, pirates, were discovered on the island searching for an old Japanese submarine that supposedly had a super soldier serum called Mirakuru. They took Shado hostage but Oliver an Slade rescued her. Shockingly to Shado an Slade Oliver brutally killed the pirate's leader. Eventually though it became clear that Shado and Oliver were falling for each other. This developed a bit of jealousy in Slade who already had an unrequited love for Shado. However he was eventually severly injured by the pirates and their actual leader bombing the old plane.
It was during this time that Sara Lance was discovered to have survived the destruction of The Queen's Gambit. She had apparently been rescued by the pirates along their way to Lian Yu. Oliver and crew rescued her from the pirates before the plane was bombed. After the bombing she helped Oliver an Shado locate the rumored submarine. They also found the serum and with no other choice in trying to save Slade gave it to him. Unfortunately it appeared to kill him. Afterwards Sara, Shado, and Oliver were captured. Oliver was forced by Professor Anthony Ivo to choose between saving Shado or Sara. If he didn't choose then Ivo would kill both. As time ran out Oliver instinctively got in the way between Ivo and Sara, resulting in Shado being shot dead. Slade, as it turned out, was cured by the mirakuru and showed up to see Shado killed. In a rage he destroyed the men, showcasing a superhuman strength. A brawl ensued between Oliver and Slade as the ship was going down, Oliver looked to be no match for Slade but debris managed to take Slade down, allowing Oliver to make his move on a (thought) to be mortally wounded Slade by stabbing him in the eye with an arrow and left him to die.
A less than stellar time came when he was forced to live in Hong Kong as property of the government, working for Amanda Waller. Oliver's abilities came in handy when dealing with terrorist threats that, if not for him and his partner, could have put multiple lives in danger. A bleak period in Oliver's life, he claims not to remember much regarding this time - but it's suspected that much more happened that he refuses to speak of due to how painful the memories are. After completing his tasks, he was dropped back off at the island- alone, but it didn't take him long to forge explosives and set it off which captured the attention of Chinese fishermen that allowed him to finally.. go.. home.
Oliver would soon return to his home of Starling City to the delight of his mother and sister, and it didn't take long for him to want to do his father proud by 'punishing' those that wronged the city. With the list he found on his father upon his death, Oliver developed a vigilante persona that extracted revenge on those who were corrupt and trying to destroy Starling City. Moira, fearing for Oliver's safety hired several bodyguards, the only one that stuck was John Diggle, an ex-serviceman that showed was capable of keeping up with Oliver despite his attempt to shake him. Oliver and his best friend, Tommy Merlyn's relationship as quickly as it was reforged was broken as Dinah Laurel Lance, captured Oliver's eye once more but Tommy was engaged in a relationship with her. Tommy felt as is Oliver had no right to swoop in and disrupt their lives and made it apparent. Oliver, matured didn't let Tommy's jealously affect his task but the breaking point came with Laurel constantly brought up Tommy working for Oliver at the Verdant, a nightclub Oliver opened in The Glades that served as HQ for his vigilante persona in the basement of the building.
During his time back in Starling City, Oliver also met a very interesting, pretty and brilliant young (at the time) secretary named Felicity Smoak. Oliver enjoyed how Felicity would have mini meltdowns in his presence, he knew she had a school-girl crush on him, it allowed him to feel human again. As 'The Hood' persona picked up steam- Detective Lance; Laurel and Sara's father was the most outspoken of critics as he felt that no vigilante should take justice into their own hands. Launching a campaign to capture 'The Hood,' Oliver soon brought John Diggle into the fold- and also after having Felicity's ability come in handy, had her added to 'Team Hood.' Together, the trio fought for Starling City's greater good, despite Detective Lance's attempt to negate The Hood's efforts. Lance never fully realized how important The Hood was to the city until after Malcolm Merlyn as The Dark Archer, a psychopathic murderer who was murdering the names on Oliver's list- not bringing them to justice- launched his seismic manipulating device in an attempt to destroy The Glades in an attempt to rectify the murder of his wife years ago. The Hood showed his importance, several many lives in the process and won over Lance's respect.
During the event, Tommy Merlyn died -- all as he was attempted to be saved by Oliver, but the steel that pierced his body was too much. Managing to repair their friendship before Tommy's death, this drove Oliver away from the city once he managed to take down Malcolm Merlyn. Back on the island, Oliver had time to process and was eventually brought back by Diggle and Felicity- all the mean while, Oliver's protege, Roy Harper, a kid from The Glades that hit it off with Thea begun to develop great skill as a vigilante, but wasn't made official until Oliver's return. With the shocking reveal that another Starling City vigilante known as 'The Canary' was shown to actually be the alive and well Sara Lance- things took a turn for the better. With The Arrow back in Starling with four dedicated members of his team, Oliver once again begun the campaign of cleaning the city. Between meeting [the now] Flash in Barry Allen, forming a friendship with man as well as crossing paths with several other villains they took down... the biggest challenge however, had yet to surface.
Hell was frozen when Slade Wilson- who was believed to be dead popped up at Oliver's home- looking to get into business with Moira Queen. Oliver feared his mother and sister's safety but didn't tip his hand as The Arrow to keep them protected. Despite his efforts to keep both lives separate, Slade promised Oliver he would crush him, and he did.
Queen Industries was in flux, it wasn't until Slade put a plant in that won Oliver over as a possible lover..- which is when the plan went into motion. Isabel, a very attractive woman and business partner had fooled Oliver into thinking they could be together and instead tricked Oliver out of power of the company, one of Slade's plans. Managing to push Oliver to the brink of losing his mind, Moira Queen decided that she was tired of hiding secrets and with a nudge from Diggle who dressed up as The Arrow and proceeded to beat on Oliver in front of her, she admitted that she was in cahoots with Malcolm regarding the earthquakes that took the lives of so many innocent, which she admits on a telecast and has her arrested and thrown into Iron Heights. The company was suffering and Oliver knew he needed to make a sacrifice to save it, so he decided to sign over power to Isabel, whom he trusted.. which lead to him losing everything.
Slade Wilson not only used Isabel as a pawn, but he also had plans to form a mirakuru army and unleash it on Starling City to punish Oliver... but Team Arrow knocked the threat out, enraging Slade to the point where he captured both Thea and Moira- proceeding to kill Moira IN FRONT of her children, all as Moira's bid to become Mayor of Starling City to oppose Sebastian Blood looked promising. During the mirakuru attack though, the city was destroyed again, which saw the disappearance of Thea Queen leading Oliver to believe she was killed when in reality, Malcolm Merlyn reappeared and saved his daughter, pledging to train her and make her strong- a bid she accepted.
Once more Oliver let guilt override him, now without his company, his mother and sister, he was a different man. It was then that things got more complicated that The League of Assassins, an ancient order that took pride in purging society to cleanse the world had showed up in Starling, due to Sara Lance's presence, After being brutally murdered before she was able to return to The League, head of the order Ra's had been informed that someone was capable of carrying out justice and ordered Oliver find the murderer and punish them accordingly. Coming up with no leads, Ra's lost patience and promised to kill 50 people a day until Oliver would surrender himself to The League and Ra's for failure to fulfil his promise to take down Sara's killer.
Oliver bit the bullet and surrendered himself to Ra's. but instead of being detained- Oliver challenged Ra's to a duel, The League stipulated any trial could be decided by combat. Ra's would win without breaking a sweat, stabbing Oliver through the chest and kicked him off a ledge, leaving him to die. However, his partner in Hong Kong had joined The League and picked his body up and took him to his wife, having Oliver nursed back to health. Returning back to Starling, it wasn't long before Ra's learned of Oliver's cheating of death and realized that Oliver's life was honorable and because he survived the duel, destiny called for Ra's to be replaced as head of the monster- head of The League. Due to Malcolm Merlyn's previous ties with The League, Ra's used those said ties to get to Oliver by ordering a hit on Thea, which was successful. The only way Ra's would allow Oliver to see his sister was to accept the deal- then in forth, Ra's promised Oliver that The Lazarus Pit, an ancient pool of water in The League's cave HQ was capable of resurrecting the dead.. but Oliver needed to give his life up and accept his role, which he did.
It was all a facade as Oliver turned on Ra's after Thea was indeed brought back seemingly from the dead, managing to kill Ra's and put an end to The League. Due to not informing his team of his approach to handle The League, he lost the respect of Diggle who set off on his own path.. and seen Roy Harper leave Starling to start a life elsewhere. With Thea, now known as Speedy with Roy's old costume and Felicity, Oliver decided to give up The Arrow persona as he was sure that Starling no longer needed him as a hero..
