My teeth chattered together a bit as I stood outside of the large mansion in the night. It wasn't that I was cold, rather bored as I waited for everybody to leave the premises. Probably going to one of their rich parties I mused to myself as I crouched down behind a bush, careful not to be seen as cars started to drive out of the driveway. My eyes watched them as they left, completely unaware of the criminal such as myself lurking in the bushes, just waiting for that opportunity to sneak into the mansion and have a little...fun.
I watch as the last car backs out of the driveway and once I was certain that they were on the road and off to wherever it was they were going, I stood back up straight and adjusted a part of my black, all leather outfit. It still looked good on me, after all these years. I let a coy smirk cross my face before I hurry across the grass and up the sidewalk to the front door. I looked at the door before picking the lock and letting myself in. I close the door behind me before putting in the key code to the security system to disarm it and I relax just a little bit more once I was certain the alarm wasn't going to bust me for some petty theft that I was about to commit.
SK:: "I only take what I need and these people seem to have more than enough to spare."
On occasion, I did talk to myself, knowing full well that it entertained me to hear my own voice once in awhile. I get to work though, not wanting to waste any time in the schematics. I hurry up the stairs and into the man's office, where I knew he kept the safe. I push through the door and move over to the desk and move behind it, pushing the chair out of the way and squatting down. My eyes look across the shelves, scanning them for the right crevice where he would keep such a safe. I smirk finding it within seconds before cracking the lock and opening the door to find several jewels and an authentic pearl necklace in there.
I stop for a moment, reaching in and grabbing the pearl necklace. I wrap my hand around the pearls and let my fingers feel the pearls slide through them. Oh the memories a simple pearl necklace could bring back, I mused to myself before slipping the necklace on just as I had done of his mother's three years or so ago. I look out the window, thinking I heard a car door shut before grabbing the jewels and whatever else I could manage to keep on myself without getting caught.
I stand up and walk over to the window, looking out and narrowing my eyes as I see a car parked in front of the house but I hadn't heard any noises in the house. Or at least not yet. A smirk grew across my face again before I moved stealthily into the master bedroom, going over to the vanity where the man's wife kept her jewelry box. I open it, carefully not wanting to make any sudden noises in case somebody had gotten inside of the house without my knowledge.
SK:: "Well, what do we have here..."
I run my fingers over several of the more expensive pieces of the woman's jewelry; the diamond necklaces and rings that she would never wear again and then the bracelets that she probably didn't wear anyways. I grabbing them, putting them in places on my body that would be easy to carry them off. A door shuts and I stand up on alert before hearing the voices.
"Now we're going to be late because you had to come back and get your pearls."
I recognized the voice but only vaguely as the man who owned the house. I listened to them for a moment, lingering in their bedroom as they went into the office to retrieve the pearls that were now around my neck. I wanted to stick around but there was too much to chance if I did. I walk over to the window at a hurried pace before shoving it up and letting myself out from the window, flipping off the back and landing easily on my feet. Now, to return to Wayne Manor, the only real place I felt truly safe.
I ran throughout the city, listening to the hum of traffic and the busy sirens that seemed to always plague Gotham. They weren't after me, at least not yet anyways. I managed to get to Wayne Manor without any major hiccups. I look at the abandoned estate, breathing in and out as I stand in front of it on the grass. It's a shame nobody lives here I think to myself as I walk closer to the manor. I look around, even though I knew that absolutely nobody was around before sliding open a window and sliding into the Manor. I quietly and carefully shut the window back into place, as if there was a reason to be so quiet and sneaky.
My eyes examine my surroundings before I empty my "findings" onto a coffee table that was covered with a white sheet. I examine them for a moment before I fling myself onto one of the couches and sigh in a sense of contentment. It felt like home, if I even truly knew where that was. But maybe this could be home, with the thought of him always lingering around the corner. But it wasn't like it was any different in my mind, because he was always there, so this...this felt right.
