The Gazette that was recently released made mention of the renovations occurring at Arkham Asylum, and how it was largely in part due to the escape of The Joker who hasn't been seen since his escape, whereabouts unknown. This is the story of what happened and how The Joker got away to the fear of everybody in Gotham.
The last we saw of The Joker in public he was hanging upside down, left by Batman while the GCPD SWAT rushed in while The Joker just laughed. So what happened to him? Joker found himself locked away. But what about when Bane broke all the prisoners out of Black Gate? Why wasn't the Joker there? Well the answer to that is actually rather simple. See, Commissioner Gordon knew that Joker was trouble. He knew that Joker was probably the worst of the worst and being around other people, other inmates... Gordon knew that probably wasn't the best place for him due to Joker's manipulative nature. So Gordon has the Joker put somewhere where he could be isolated, by himself, away from all of the others so there was no chance he could manipulate and to reduce his chances greatly of being back out on the streets of Gotham. So now, Joker is in his isolated cell. He stands behind a glass door that has holes cut in it for air and so he and the guards and scientists could speak with one another.
Joker: HEHEHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HOO HOO
Gordon: I'm not sure why you're laughing Joker because you're going to be here for a long time.
Joker: Ohhh Jimbo! Jim Bob! Gordie! The Commish! Don't you ever get tired of chasing down all of the bad guys all of the time?! What makes them so bad anyway Jimbo? Is it because we're all a little bit different? Is it because we've got different values?! It's okay Gordie, you can talk to me! The Joker... is your friend! Hahahahaha.
Gordon: Shut it, Joker. You know damn well what you did and why you're here. You might be able to fool other people but you're not going anywhere, Joker. So you may as well get used to your new home because you'll be seeing nothing but these walls for the rest of your life.
Joker: Oh Jimbo, don't you worry. See you only THINK that you've got me stuck here but it is I that has all of the power. Hahahehehahaha. You are POWERLESS Jimbo! I could get out of here any - time that I want. You have no control over anything, Jimbo, BUT I figured I could catch a good nights sleep and have a little fun! Maybe we could play some checkers, or some Uno! I know you like to play games! OH OH! We could play I spy!
Gordon: Enough, Joker! I don't know what it is that you're trying to...
Joker: Oh don't you worry, Gordie! But let me ask you a question... do you know how I got these scars?
Gordon: I really don't ca--
Joker: How WONDERFUL of you to care so much! See, Jimbo, I got these scars back when I was in school and one of my teachers was a little... different. I didn't talk much, Jimbo, can you believe that?! Neither can I! Such a coincidence! Why aren't we better friends, Jimbo?! We have SO MUCH in common! But this teacher of mine... he asked me to stay after class. So I did. Teacher wasn't too fond of me being so quiet, Jimbo. He thought I was depressed! Which to be fair, things at home weren't.. the best. But I digress! Teacher said I need to SMILE more! Teacher said I need to LAUGH more! Teacher said I needed to have a SMILE from ear to ear! So he took a knife out of his pocket... (The Joker creates a smacking sound with his mouth and licks his lips) and he put it in my mouth! He held it there and he told me not to be scared because it would be alright and I'd have a smile that everyone would remember! You really should SMILE more, Jimbo! But I was scared! And then his grip got tighter, his voice got louder and the next thing I knew-- SLICE! He cut one way, and then he cut the other! Giving a SMILE that nobody would forget going from ear to ear! At first I was upset but now I like to think it makes me look rather-- ravishing! Oh don't you worry, Jimbo! Maybe I'll give you a smile to be remembered by too!
Gordon: That's enough out of-- >BOOM!< The hell was that?!
Joker: (Speaking Sarcastically) Why... I wouldn't know! Maybe you should go check!
Gordon: Not a chance. I don't know what you're up to but I'm not letting you out of my sight until we figure it out!
Officers in the Arkham facility were running towards the sound of the "boom" and screams and yells began to come out from that direction and Gordon didn't know what to do, until another loud >BOOM!< came and it shook some of the asylum. Gordon couldn't help but mutter to himself, saying "Damnit."
Joker: oooh Gordie, it sounds pretty serious out there! So I have to ask... what's more important, Jimbo? The lives of your officers and the doctors in this fine facility... or keeping an eye on me to make sure I don't escape? Come on, Jimbo! Im surrounded by four confined walls! Where do you think I'm going to go?! Or... or is it that you know I can get out of here whenever I want? Don't be shy, Jimbo. It's alright to admit defeat.
>BOOM!<
Another explosion, a lot closer this time with more screams and yells coming from that area. Gordon had no choice at this point and ran off towards that last one. And Joker couldn't help but smile and he stepped back towards the glass and looked at the rear wall. It was as if he was waiting for something. Just then the sounds of car screeching and a loud crash and his wall is knocked in, and The Joker gives off a little laugh. The rear doors fly open and a driver yells for Joker to get in. While these minutes were passing, Gordon had reached the explosion that was closest to him. Walls were knocked in, some sinister looking chattering teeth were all over the ground and the officers and nurses were stuck in a laughter and they couldn't stop. That was when Gordon heard the last "boom" come from where he just left and it clicked... Joker. Gordon ran back just to see the wall knocked in. Joker stood in the back of the van and blew Gordon a kiss and a wave goodbye as he slammed the doors shut and the van without license plates drove off. Gordon couldn't believe it. The Joker was right. He could get out any time he wanted. Gordon could call it in, and he would, but this was The Joker, one of the most intelligent and sinister criminals in all of Gotham and he was back out on the streets.
