It wouldn't be long now, Jim thought, as he stood behind the door which would lead into the press conference room housed in the Gotham City Police Headquarters. It was only hours after Anarky released the devastating "Moneyspider" virus onto Gotham, robbing people of their money as they used their credit cards and shopped online. Gordon was thoroughly incensed by the attack, but on the surface he remained calm. He knew he would find the coward trying to cripple Gotham behind the false veil of anarchy. He knew these villains, he understood their psyche and their playbook, they harped on the strings of the masses for their own ulterior motives, and would ultimately turn on them with the blade just as soon as they could.
"My only regret is going to be not doing this in my office, I know it. But, let's get on with it then." thought Jim, as a stage hand opened the door. The light of the conference room invaded the dimly lit corridor Gordon was standing in, he heard the clicks of cameras and flashing of the bulbs from the press, and he put his right foot forth first as he strode into the room and up onto the stage that stood two feet off the floor.
Standing behind the podium for the first time in weeks, perhaps months as he began to delegate more to his press relations department, he felt a sense of renewal. For whatever reason, Jim Gordon had been carrying himself around as a defeated man, and today it would stop. He cleared his throat, looked down at his prepared speech one last time before he decided he would not use it, and instead go straight off the cuff.
"Good evening citizens and denizens of Gotham City, I am your Commissioner of Police. Earlier today, you were attacked by a virus released by a relentless scoundrel in the hacker activist super-villain scum known as Anarky. I want to assure you that the damage done by this virus will be reversed, and full efforts will be done to return to you the hard earned income in which you've all struggled to make in these harrowing times." said Jim Gordon, continuing, "I will admit that these times have effected everyone, including myself, as the city is in a state of flux. But recently, events have transpired that require firm reaction, and one of those events is, of course, the confidential leaks from Officer Mike Akin's smartphone. I will tell you this, right now, these pictures were planted on his smartphone by someone that gained internal access to GCPD by very clever means. Those means were hacking Mike Akin's phone as he worked on his case, remotely accessing his camera, and taking the pictures anytime he would use his phone. Mike Akins was a victim in the heinous plot to decimate this city by the same villain that released the Moneyspider Virus, the same perpetrator of your misery, Anarky."
The press immediately began to murmur among themselves at this bit of breaking news, but there was still more bombshells to come from the mouth of Gotham City's law enforcement general.
"If anyone were to think logically on this subject for more than five minutes before losing the last remnants of good sense they have left, you would begin to deduce that it's insane for a decorated veteran of the Gotham City Police Department to openly and willingly compromise his own investigation by leaving highly confidential information in picture form on one of the easiest to hack devices in the world--the smartphone. Anarky exposed a flaw in the security of Akins' smartphone via a text message. Yes, a simple standard text message, and that is how he gained access to my officer's phone." said Commissioner Gordon, "Anarky has declared war on this city, and on my police department. He has used cyberattacks to cripple us, but he has yet to make any physical actions yet. I can assure you, that when he moves, we will be ready to pounce on this charlatan."
Jim took a sip of water, and looked back down at the speech, it might as well be burning on the podium in front of him.
"I cannot allow the degradation of this city any longer, this is why I am declaring open war against all of Gotham's enemies, including the mob to the Joker and anyone who stands in the way of justice, the safety of our people and their pursuit of happiness and liberty. If you are in opposition of the law, and stand with villainy, I advise you to brace yourself as the hammer of order will be swift to crush you where you stand." said Jim Gordon, "In this next phase of my tenure as Commissioner, this Police department will put an end to the rot corrupting this city for good. We will use all means possible under the lean budget and employ new effective strategies of enforcement and investigation to finally push back the rampant injustice. Thank you, and have a safe night, Gotham City."
As he concluded his speech, a cold determined Jim Gordon stood behind the podium for ten seconds as the live television feed cut, he then turned stage left, and exited to begin his preparations and meet with his strategists.
